Attire & Weather
All activities are business casual (no shorts, t-shirts, or jeans).
Get ready to enjoy some blue skies and sunshine! San Diego is beautiful year-round, but July is a particularly great time to visit. You can expect daily high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s °F, and comfortable overnight temperatures in the mid to upper 60s °F. There may be some morning humidity too, but warmer temps usually dry out the air by the afternoon.
Continuing Education Credits
Based on your attendance, you can earn up to fifteen (15) CE credits. The AAPA is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS PACETM Program. To be eligible to receive continuing education credit, you must have passed the ASCP BOC exam prior to this meeting. To receive credit, you must arrive and sign-in within the first 10 minutes of the start of each and every lecture.
The maximum number of CE credits available at our 2024 Summer Meeting is fifteen (15).
Remember, a perk of being an AAPA member is automated ASCP credit transfer. Members who have provided their ASCP Customer ID in their AAPA profile, and whose first and last name are an exact match to their ASCP profile, will have their AAPA PACE credits earned at this meeting and all additional credits earned throughout the year, seamlessly transferred to their ASCP transcript each week.
Tips for Employer Approval
The AAPA understands that budgets can be tight, staffing can be short, and time can be limited. Since the AAPA is the first choice for pathologists' assistant-specific education, the AAPA wants all members to attend.
Here are tips to help get employer approval to attend an AAPA event:
- Be armed with knowledge! Demonstrate the valuable information presented at the conference and how it will help you stay current in the field of pathology. Provide your employer with a schedule of the lectures (and workshops if applicable) that you plan to attend, and offer to present what you’ve learned to your coworkers upon your return.
- Provide information! Submit an estimate of travel expenses, including how you plan to keep these costs down (discounted shuttle vs. cab, meals included in registration rate, etc.).
- Be helpful! Offer suggestions for providing coverage while you are at the conference.
- Use the AAPA! Apply for a travel grant. The AAPA has travel grants available to help cover the cost. Stay up-to-date with the latest opportunities and submission deadlines by keeping your contact information current and/or following us on social media.
- Shop for deals! Get the best discounted rates available for our events by registering early and booking your room early at the host hotel property.
Each year, the AAPA's continuing education events provide members with the perfect venue to obtain the PACE credits necessary to maintain ASCP BOC certification. The Annual Conference, Spring Meeting, and Summer Meeting are the best outlets for pathologists' assistants to address the need for continuing education. We have put together a customizable sample letter for you to download outlining the value of AAPA Events to both you and your company. You can customize the letter to your unique situation, focusing on the issues and opportunities that are most important to you.
