About the artist
Carl was born in Manchester in 1957 and had always been interested in art so art college was a certainty.
After four years of fun, he started his career with a Manchester advertising agency. His job was: "finished artist", cow gum, Letraset and making the tea!
He eventually tried his hand at self-employment - designing and manufacturing his own shop mannequins! He won a best young business award from the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry)
In his own words " I've had a colourful life!" and he has worked for some amazing companies including international design company Vitra in Switzerland and Steelcase in America.
Now a full-time plein-air painter, using oils as his preferred medium, Carl says painting outside has always worked for him. He likes the immediate results, and describes it as a very honest way of painting as he stated that he hates the verbose nonsense associated with art, and would rather do it than talk about it!
