”Is memorization still relevant as a learning tool in this modern world we live in?”As technology comes up with more ways to ponder and contemplate on behalf of the human mind, memorization becomes increasingly restricted in its usage and appreciation. One of the common misunderstandings we have about memorization as a tool for effective learning is that it is relatable only to realities of the past and as such, is irrelevant to the supposedly progressive world we live in. In fact, we start to even see memorization as a hindrance to holistic learning.
In this session, Shaykh Dr Ahmad Saad will highlight how memorization is not an isolated tool, but a complement to the pertinence of understanding in learning, with the former’s roots entrenched in a plethora of disciplines that emphasise the use of the faculty of memory. Be inspired by the stories and accounts of scholars who have upheld memorization as a significant part of their learning process.
Hopefully, this session can reinvigorate our zeal for memorization as we acknowledge its centrality as a tool of learning in general, and Islamic learning in particular.
