Dance, sing, and play at the season's loveliest old-fashioned party hosted by Mr. Fezziwig from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.Greenwich Mean Time, our wonderful Dickens Fair dance band, will play a variety of Viennese and rotary waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, schottisches, reels, and other country and set dances popular in the early and mid-19th century. As usual, all set dances will be taught or called. No partners required.
There will be an introductory dance class in Victorian ballroom dance at 7 pm followed by formal dancing from 8pm to midnight.
There will also be another special performance by the amazing Coventry Carolers, and a short but scandalous performance by the Peerless Music Hall.
Suggested costume is evening or day dress from 1837 through 1870 (the heyday of Dickens' literary career), any class. Modern evening dress is, as always, a completely acceptable substitute for period costume, and there is no dress code for the evening. If you're wearing a ball gown or evening gown, please be sure to bring a wrap since the ballroom will be cold before the dancing starts. Once we start dancing, the ballroom warms up beautifully!
Note: Children under 12 have free admission to the ball but, for their own safety, MUST have an adult partner on the dance floor.
Tickets must be purchased in advance. For ticket information see https://www.peersdance.org/12thNight.html
