About the show:
Few musicians have been as influential to the jazz world as saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. From his early days with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, to Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet, to co-founding Weather Report, his musician lineage is as deep as it is wide. His compositions like Infant Eyes, Witch Hunt, Footprints, Nefertiti, and dozens more have become modern standards in the jazz canon.
Alongside Bryan Harrison (keys), Jonathan Wires (bass), Ross McReynolds (drums), and Emmanuel Echem (trumpet), saxophonist David Williford will be presenting music written by the visionary composer/saxophonist Wayne Shorter - spanning his work with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the late 50's and Miles Davis in the 60's, all the way to his transcendent pieces from the last decade.
Woodwind player and composer David Williford has been an active part of the creative music scene in Nashville for over a decade. After growing up playing blues, rock, and gospel music with his dad, David moved to middle Tennessee to study music with artists like Don Aliquo. He continues performing, recording, and writing music - as a leader and a sideman. In 2023, he released his sophomore album, Season of Smoke. In addition to his own projects, David has enjoyed performing/recording with artists such as John Mailander‘s Forecast, Louis Prince, Maggie Rogers, Ruston Kelly, Jeff Coffin, Ryan Connors and David Rodgers.
