This is a course in yoga with an orientation to trauma and how yoga can be a tool in the trauma healing process. We will explore a variety of practices that regulate the nervous system, stimulate the vagus nerve, and create a sense of mastery. The classes will be a mix of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, mantra, meditation, and relaxation practices, and have a calm mood.
In yoga, it is not so much which practices we do that is the most important, but the way in which we do them. Kindness, awareness, and breath will be important aspects of our practice.
I acknowledge that the effects of trauma cause, at best, a disconnect from the body, and at worst makes the body a painful and terrifying place to be. Yoga can, if done in the right way (which mainly means the way that is right for you personally) be a powerful tool in helping us reconnect with the body, and learn to tolerate and regulate physical states and sensations.
Shifting the relationship to ourselves is a slow process that requires patience and repetition.
As a teacher in these trauma sensitive yoga classes, I will aim to show up in a way that creates a safe space;
- The instructions I give are simply guidelines which you can choose to follow or adjust in a way more suitable (I am happy to offer suggestions of adjustments),
- Shavasana or any other resting position is always an available option for you at any point of the practice,
- You may leave class whenever, should you feel the need to,
- I will not offer hands-on assists, touch your body, or enter your personal space (unless specifically asked for).
You don’t need any previous experience to join this course; it is perhaps suitable especially for you who are curious about how yoga might serve you on your trauma healing journey, but haven’t found the avenue to try it yet.
You also don’t need to have any big history of trauma; we all carry some form of trauma material in our bodies.

About me:
I came into contact with yoga 23 years ago, and it has been and still is a constant companion on my journey. My own yoga practice has helped me create a loving relationship to my own body and inner self.
I started studying trauma nearly 10 years ago, rooted in my own need for healing, and I have been working with it since then.
I am passionate about discovering what it really means to be a human being, and how we can all live a life in our fullest potential and joy.
I am also fascinated by understanding where the ancient yogic science, which its colourful, poetic language, merges with modern neuroscience.
I am looking forward to having you with me!
