About this Event

On Saturday April 22...

We took over a courtroom at Toronto's Old City Hall...

The Good Guise, The Forgiveness Project, Lifted by Purpose, Black Men’s Therapy Fund, FL!P Foundation, and SUWAM Sound have collaborated with A Toronto Mans Reflection to create this interactive art exhibit to uplift the voices of Black, Indigenous, and racialized incarcerated men while their thoughts on what's needed for our communities to be safer.

VIDEO RECAP -

YALL ASKED FOR IT!! ENCORE!! ENCORE!! ENCORE!!

Flying the kite in the Pr*son system means

(1)mail sent to or from J*il, for or from inmates

A chance for the community to write handwritten letters to the incarcerated racialized mans reflections and to our city councillors about community safety.

"It's lonely out here, it's nice to get a one, two letter." - Anonymous

Each DONATION will let you submit one handwritten letter. All proceeds will be donated to the organizations involved for their work on the frontlines. You can donate through RSVP or at the exhibit.

We will also be featuring a discussion moderated by Chloe Brown with the organizers behind this event between 6PM - 7PM EST.

We asked these men two prompt questions:

“If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self? (self-accountability)”

“If you could go back in time, what support would you want to have from the system? (system-accountability)”

We created art from their reflections to these questions.

We invite you to witness, absorb, and consider ways we can work together to make community safety a real priority in a collaborative way that centers the lives of the people most affected by the structural and lived violence that the current system creates.

“COMMUNITY SAFETY” has far too long been defined by those who are least impacted by structural violence. Toronto continues to rely on and fund increased policing and incarceration, despite the evidence that these racist and violent responses create more harm. The voices of Black, Indigenous, racialized people who are most impacted are therefore being devalued and erased.

What is "A Toronto Mans Reflection?"

We collaborate with different revolutionary grassroot collectives to curate interactive art exhibits showcasing personal reflections/thoughts focusing on racialized masculinity, vulnerability and sustainability from the voices of racialized men. We are a huge advocate when it comes to "what happens when the researched become the researchers."
