About this Event
A Taste of Black Theatre - Presented by Showtime Productions & Creatives Connect
A Taste of Black Theatre written by Johnny Sizemore & Kerrick Monotnio, is a bold and poetic theatrical experience inspired by the legendary Century Cycle of August Wilson. This original work brings together scenes from Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Fences, The Piano Lesson, Seven Guitars, King Hedley II and Jitney, interwoven with powerful narration and a compelling contemporary character, Malik—a young man navigating his place in a legacy he didn’t ask for, but won’t deny.
From the heat of 1927 Chicago to the worn curbs of 1970s Pittsburgh, this moving tribute invites audiences to experience six decades of rhythm, conflict, and truth—all on one stage. Malik’s final words echo long after the curtain falls:
“I brought my own pen.”
Don't miss this limited engagement—two performances only.
Presented at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, SC.
