Butte Tango & The Bighorn are teaming up to offer an exciting pop-up Tango class and sip. You will learn so much about the culture of Argentina in this one evening! (no experience or partner is required to attend). In Argentine culture, tango and wine are both cherished symbols of national identity and social connection. Tango, born in Buenos Aires from a blend of African, European, and Indigenous influences, evolved from working-class origins to an internationally celebrated art form, embodying Argentina’s emotional and social spirit. Meanwhile, Argentina’s wine tradition is rooted in centuries-old practices and represents hospitality and friendship in social gatherings. Together, tango and wine celebrate Argentina’s heritage, bringing people together through dance, music, and the shared experience of food and drink. Speaking of food, we are featuring empanadas on our menu for the month of December, and for this one evening, we celebrate all of the above.
5:30pm: Purchase our Argentine feature wine flight from the bar, that comes with an Argentine Empanada! We will be featuring a Malbec and Bonarda for our red wine lovers, and a Torrontes for our white wine lovers. (Items are also sold separately if preferred).
6pm: Lela O'Bryant and David Sabado, the founders of Butte Tango, will teach a 30-minute beginner tango class to all of our attendees. No previous experience or partner is required. A $5 donation is suggested for the class."
6:30pm: Following the lesson, Lela and David will provide a demonstration of what experienced tango dancing looks like.
7pm: Enjoy additional Argentine wine at the bar and/or additional dancing. Tango music will be played for another hour and Lela will be present to assist guests in advancing their tango skills.
7:30pm.: Class and tango class ends. Chat with Lela to learn more about ongoing tango lessons and events in Butte and the Montana Tango Community. Hang out with us until 9pm when The Bighorn closes!
About Butte Tango:
Butte Tango was founded in October of 2021 with the goal of hosting regular Argentine Tango events and classes in Butte, Montana and the surrounding areas. We love to share our passion for tango with dancers (and non-dancers) far and wide.
Lela O'Bryant has been a dancer her entire life. She began studying ballet at a very early age and received a Minor in Dance from the University of Montana in Missoula in 2010. This degree exposed her to various other styles of dance and choreography including Modern Dance in Cunningham and Graham Technique, Tribal Belly Dance, Hula, East Coast Swing, Ballroom, and Contact Improvisation. She began learning tango in 2013 in Helena and quickly fell in love with the technicality and connection tango provides. In addition to Tango, she teaches Ballet and Modern at 5678 Dance Studio in Uptown Butte.
David Sabado started dipping his toes into Tango in 2012 after seeing a demonstration done to pop music. It opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for his dancing. He's dabbled in a variety of styles over the years including Ballroom, East and West Coast Swing, Salsa, and Country 2-Step, but has found a deep abiding love for the versatility of Tango. He also teaches regular Country 2-Step classes at the Elks Lodge in Uptown Butte.
About The Bighorn:
Vanessa (owner of The Bighorn) lived in Argentina for two years in pursuit of all things wine. Throughout those years,, she experienced many-a-night dancing tango until the sun came up, while drinking Malbec and other such wine grapes of Argentina. She hasn't danced tango in many years since that time, but she is very excited to have the opportunity to do so again with Lela and the Butte Tango community.
