About the Artists

Susana Behar is a Miami–based singer of the Sephardic music of her family’s roots as well as the Cuban and South American folkloric styles of her upbringing in Cuba and Venezuela. Her main interest is in the diversity of traditional music and its dynamic character, as well as its relation to history, culture and storytelling. She has served as Artist-in-Residence at the Deering Estate since January 2023. In recognition of her contributions, she has also been appointed as a Programming Partner at the Estate for the 2025–2026 term. Susana received the Individual Artist Fellowship Award in the Folk and Traditional Arts by the Florida Department of State – Division of Cultural Affairs, and in 2020, she served as the Artist in Residence at the HistoryMiami Museum. Susana has performed extensively in projects, festivals, and concerts throughout North and South America, Israel, and Japan, collaborating with musicians from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and musical traditions.. Her music has been featured in the documentary ‘Adio Kerida’ of anthropologist Ruth Behar (no relation), in ‘The music from the Sunshine State’, a series of radio programs featuring folk music, recorded by National Public Radio and the Florida Department of State Division of Historical Resources, in the National Arab Orchestra’s ‘Layali al Andaluz’ concert and in the soundtrack of ‘ANUSIM’, a collaborative choreographic work by Dance NOW Miami (USA) and Damça em Dialogos (Portugal), with music by Miami based guitarist/ composer, Federico Bonacossa, among others. Most recently, Susana took the stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where she highlighted the beauty, significance, and rich legacy of Sephardic music. This remarkable performance was part of the iconic venue’s first-ever celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month. By incorporating elements from different musical genres and cultural traditions, Susana Behar has developed a style that feels fresh and authentic. Her music speaks to people from different backgrounds and cultures, bringing them together in a shared experience that transcends boundaries and celebrates diversity. Susana has recorded three albums: La Galana i la Mar (2009), At The Crossroads, Live (2016) and TAPIZ (2019).

Michel Gonzalez is a Miami based guitarist, composer, arranger and educator. Born in Venezuela and raised in Spain, he studied classical guitar at Mayeusis Conservatory and jazz guitar at Estudio, Escola de musica in Spain. He was awarded a scholarship from AIE (Society of Artists and performances of Spain) to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he graduated Magna cum laude with a degree in Professional music. In addition, he took master classes with Pat Metheny, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Charlie Banacos, Jorge Pardo, and Barry Harris. In 2013, he was nominated by Latin Grammy Academy for participating as an arranger, producer, and guitar player in “Para ser un Sol” by Jesus Hidalgo.

Magela Herrera is a Cuban-born flutist, vocalist, composer, and recording artist who grew up immersed in both Afro-Cuban traditions and classical music, which she studied at the Conservatory of Music in Havana. Over the years, she has performed with renowned international artists such as Chucho Valdés, Hernán López-Nussa, Jan Eggum, and the Oslo Chamber Orchestra. After completing her studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music, she developed a distinctive sound blending Latin jazz and Euro jazz. The Latin Jazz Network has praised her as “a bonafide star” whose music blends beauty with mysticism. She is recognized as one of today’s most exciting female instrumentalists.

Elvis Martinez studied at the Jose Luis Paz Conservatory in Venezuela. He was a bassist in the Maracaibo Symphony Orchestra for 25 years, a member of the Huascar Barradas band, producer and arranger of several musical productions with Huascar Barradas and Alexis Cardenas, with whom he also toured internationally. Elvis Martinez is a composer and arranger of Venezuelan experimental music. He participated in the musical production "Identidad" by the famous Venezuelan cuatrista Miguel Siso, which was awarded a Latin Grammy in the "Instrumental" category. He currently participates in several groups where different musical genres are expressed, such as Venezuelan music and jazz, among others. He was a professor for 18 years in the double bass department of the Jose Luis Paez Conservatory.

About the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts

The Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts was founded in 2014 by Arthur Wiener and family. The museum celebrates the fired arts of ceramics and glass and visitors can see beautiful pottery and porcelain art from the 18th century to the present day. The Wiener museum introduces the work of British pottery pioneers, such as Josiah Wedgwood and Sir Henry Doulton, as well as European designers from Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras.

The glass galleries at the Wiener Museum showcase the art of French designer Renée Lalique and Venetian maestros from Murano, as well as local glass artists working in South Florida. The highlight of the Hot Glass gallery is a spectacular collection of Chihuly. Contemporary ceramic art from the Ardmore studio in South Africa is one of the favorite exhibits at the Wiener museum, which hosts a varied program of exhibitions and cultural events.
