Hungarian folkdance –the costumes, the colour, the music – turning, spinning, stamping here in Christchurch.A group of young dancers (aged 11-18) from Melbourne’s Magyar Kultúr Kör (Culture Club of United Hungarians) will be performing at the Arts Centre on Saturday 29 November at 1pm, in front of the Gym by the Market Square.
Melbourne’s large Hungarian community draws teachers from the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Program (based in Hungary) every year to maintain their Hungarian culture from the source. These young people, although born in Australia, are then able to act as cultural ambassadors to the Hungarian diaspora and the general public.
This is a great chance for people in Christchurch to see them.
They will also be performing folkdance and singing at the Hungarian Club, New Brighton on Sunday 30 November from 3pm.
