Come together and explore the mysteries of life as related through the idea of Karma. The group will meet every two weeks around a series of lectures and articles each exploring karma from a different perspective. No prior experience with the idea is required. This class is free and open to all.
Taken from A Yoga Dictionary of Basic Sanskrit Terms by Goswami Kriyanada: "Karma(The Law of): The simple idea that everything is caused, as in the laws in physics and chemistry, except that the law of karma is not terminated by time. The law of karma is not the law of retribution, nor the law of punishment. It is a simple law that says each soul confines itself according to its actions of the past. One who gambles builds an energy to gamble; one who loves builds an energy to love' one who studies builds an energy to study. What you have done in the past gives you a proclivity to redo that in this lifetime. This is the action of karma. All things that happen to you are caused by your past actions. What you do today will modify yesterday and recreate tomorrow."
Aham Brahmasmi is a yogic affirmation meaning, "I am the creative principle". Each of us is our own alchemical furnace of creation and it is through our three bodies, five sheaths, 10 forces and 2 states of consciousness that the world both arises and collapses, just as simply and regularly as the cycle of breath. Knowing this, we can make choices and imagine what they might lead to, both for our SELF and others.
