Performance Dates:

• Friday, September 20 – Sunday, September 22

*Rehearsals will depend on the actors’ availability.
*All actors who are cast must be available for all show dates, as well as tech week.
The play dramatizes the experiences of Blanche DuBois, a former Southern belle who, after encountering a series of personal losses, leaves her once-prosperous situation to move into a shabby apartment in New Orleans rented by her younger sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley. Though she finds a glimmer of hope while connecting with Stanley's gentlemanly friend, Mitch, Blanche cannot face the truth of her own troubled past and ultimately descends into madness.
Notes from the director about casting:
• We’re seeking a variety of ages and physical types ranging from late teens to seniors. Ages for the roles of Blanche, Stanley, Stella, and Mitch can range between late 20s to early 40s (or those who can reasonably pass for late 20s to early 40s), and will be determined based on the audition turnout.
• Please bring your acting resume or a list of your acting experience. Be prepared to read from the script alongside fellow auditionees. Some familiarity with the script would be ideal. (You can find copies online and I’m betting in every library in America.) No prepared monologue is necessary.
• Please also be able to list any and all scheduling conflicts from July 22nd to September 22nd, though rehearsals will likely begin on July 29th.
Characters:
-Blanche DuBois: Female, ages late 20s to early 40s;a demeanor that connotes an emotionally fragile person.
-Stanley Kowalski: Male, ages late 20s to early 40s;
-Stella Kowalski: Female, ages late 20s to early 40s; vivacious, sensual.
-Harold “Mitch” Mitchell: Male, ages late 20s to early 40s; shy, clumsy, but gentle and kind.
-Eunice Hubbell: Female, ages late 20s to early 40s; A bit crass and rough around the edges.
-Steve Hubbell: Male, ages late 20s to early 40s; same demeanor as his wife – on the crass side and very earthy.
-Pablo Gonzales: Male, ages late 20s to early 40s; one of the poker players, punctuates games with Spanish phrases.
-Young Collector: Male, must be 18 years or older; a teenager who comes to the Kowalskis’ door to collect for the newspaper when Blanche is home alone.
-Doctor: Male, ages mid-40s to late 60s; arrives at the end to bring Blanche on her "vacation."
-Nurse: Female or male, ages late 20s to late 60s; arrives with the Doctor.
-Negro Woman: Female, ages mid-30s to mid-50s; has a “seen it all” air.
-Mexican Woman: Female, ages early 40s to mid-60s; sells flowers for the dead when Blanche recounts her fall from grace.
(We apologize about Tennessee Williams’ character names for those latter two.)
Notes from the director:
• Anyone who needs to audition by way of Zoom should contact Playcrafters at [email protected] as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made. Please use the Zoom option only if absolutely necessary, as casting will largely be based on auditionees’ in-person chemistry with others.
• Those cast as Blanche, Stanley, and Stella can expect to be at all (or nearly all) rehearsals. Those cast as Mitch and the Hubbells can expect to be there frequently. The other half-dozen will likely only be needed one or two nights per week until we get into September.
• Ideally, I’d love to schedule rehearsals for Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m., giving everyone weekends off until tech weekend. That, however, will depend on actor availability.
• Have fun at the audition! Streetcar is a landmark drama, to be sure … but there are plenty of laughs … at least until there aren’t. Hope to see you there!
