A Star Shall Rise
A Star Shall Rise blends a few themes together: of stars, of a young woman who is to bear a child in a time and place of minority-hood and under military occupation and of Advent more broadly. November 30th is the first Sunday of Advent in the western Christian calendar, and we celebrate these themes of good things expected through that particular story. This is the time of the year when we draw near to the darkest point of the winter at the Solstice. What better time than for a star to appear, for all of us to look together for light in the darkness, warmth beyond the winter, and hope in times of trouble?
Canticum is a 34-person chamber choir under the direction of Sandra Bender. Join us for an afternoon featuring works of composers including Rachmaninoff, Hildegard von Bingen, Jacobus Gallus, Tallis, and many others.
