A Springtime Stroll through The Pinnacle Nature Reserve

Landcare ACT's Women in Nature program invites you to connect with and care for nature through WELLSPRING - a series of nature connection activities set to run weekly throughout the spring season (Sept/Oct/Nov) including guided walks, talks, nature-based art sessions, and hands-on conservation activities. This series will run alongside the Canberra Festival of Nature, this year's theme being Glorious Grasslands.
Enjoy a spring stroll in one of Canberra's beautiful nature reserves. Located in Hawker, The Pinnacle is home to more than 230 species of native grasses, shrubs and trees. The more undisturbed patches of vegetation support a host of native wildflowers, including native orchids, lilies, and paper and button daisies. The reserve also provides habitat for more than 100 species of birds – 40% of all species ever recorded in the ACT – including several designated as threatened in the ACT and NSW. The woodlands are home to Scarlet Robins, Yellow-rumped Thornbills, Superb Fairy-wrens and many other small birds.
The Friends of the Pinnacle (fotpin) is a local community-based group of ParkCare volunteers who work closely with the ACT Parks and Conservation Service to conserve and restore the ecological values of the reserve. Learn more at https://fotpin.org.au/
Join Landcare ACT's nature connection facilitator - Sally Holliday and Friends of the Pinnacle member - Nola McKeon for a spring stroll with a focus on activating the senses and noticing the little details (all the while keeping eyes peeled for emerging wildflowers). There will be time for personal reflection and group discussion.
"I've been a regular user of the Pinnacle Nature Reserve for over 20 years as it’s near home. I enjoy it for relaxation, exercise, entertainment and inspiration. It’s a great place to walk, picnic and explore with grandchildren. It’s special to be able to observe its seasonal and annual changes." - Nola
Wayfinding
We'll enter the reserve from the gravel carpark off Springvale Drive (there are two car parks in close proximity, we will gather in the one opposite number 117 Springvale Drive, closest to De Salis St). Look for the Landcare ACT A-frame sign. Once in the reserve, we will be walking on undulating terrain and various surfaces, at times the track narrows down to single file.
What to bring/wear
Please wear enclosed shoes, be sunwise, and dress for the weather conditions. Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated.
Landcare ACT's Women in Nature program welcomes all women, including those who identify as cis, trans, and non-binary. The program celebrates women actively caring for nature across the Canberra region, whilst inspiring others to engage in citizen science and environmental stewardship.
Visit the Landcare ACT Humanitix page for more information on events Clearin the WELLSPRING series. With support from ACTEWAGL's Community Grants Program, registration is FREE!
