About this Event
Community members are invited to the Long Island Collection's first drop-in pop-up exhibit of 2025. This informal event is part of a series that encourages visitors to explore and learn about items in the Long Island Collection.
This exhibit highlights research done by the Plain Sight Project, a local non-profit that researches enslavement on the East End, and who seeks to identify enslaved persons and free people of color that lived and worked in the East Hampton area.
The exhibit will feature documents from the Long Island Collection that were uncovered by the project, including account books like the Hedges Family shoemaker records, church records, and indentures from the era of gradual emancipation.
No registration is necessary. This exhibit will be held on Wednesday, March 12th, from 4 to 7pm, and librarians will be available to answer questions. Due to popular demand, the exhibit will be open for viewing throughout the weekend. For questions or more information, contact [email protected] or call 631-324-0222 ext. 4.
