An exciting overview of the science behind our understanding of the cosmos and its evolving history!
In this talk, we will explore the origins and evolution of the universe, from the Big Bang, through its present state, all the way to its ultimate fate. We will discuss the formation of matter in the very early universe, the roles of dark matter and dark energy, and the strange phenomena of black holes and gravitational waves. We will look at the methods we use to observe and interpret this information, including discussions of Einstein’s relativity and the groundbreaking discoveries from our fleet of modern telescopes.
Thomas Shutt is a PhD candidate and teacher at the University of York. His research looks at asteroseismology and stellar physics.
This meeting will be face to face in the York Medical Society rooms and also shared via Zoom.
