About this Event

A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of the Lord Cormack will be held in St Margaret's Church, Westminster on Monday 18th November 2024 at 12 Noon.

Long-serving Conservative MP, Patrick Cormack served as a politician for over 54 years, first as MP for Cannock and later for South Staffordshire. Born in Grimsby, Lord Cormack was educated at Havelock School and later at Hull University.

Dedicated both to Parliament and to the support of historic churches, Patrick founded and then co-chaired the All Party Heritage group for 35 years, and the House of Commons' Works of Art committee for 14 years. He also served as the Chairman of the Northern Ireland Select Committee and founded and then co-edited the Parliamentary House Magazine for nearly thirty years where he was Life President.

Away from Parliament, Patrick was a liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, was President of the Tennyson Society, a Parliamentary warden at St Margaret's Church for 13 years and a Commander of Finland's Order of the Lion, having chaired the Parliamentary groups for Bosnia, Croatia and Finland. He was also a Deputy High Steward of Lincoln Cathedral, Chairman of the Historic Lincoln Trust and a Freeman of the City of Lincoln. Patrick also authored several books focused on British Heritage. He was knighted in 1995.

The service for Patrick will be chance to share the memories and legacy he left to those that knew and loved him and provide an opportunity for a celebration of his life, focusing on his devotion to public life and politics, his love of heritage and through his strong faith, his stirring support of the church and keen interest in the Prayer book.

To attend the service, click on 'get tickets' top right and register for the tickets required which will be sent to the email address you leave. The Abbey does not share the data you leave with third parties.
