A Season of Spirits: Christmas Ghost Tales Old & NewA Spine-Tingling Holiday Event Featuring Dickens, Lovecraft, W.W. Jacobs, Jeanette Winterson, Dinah Mulock Craik. This holiday season, enter a world where candlelight flickers, snow quiets the night—and something unseen and uncanny lurks just beyond the bright holiday lights.
Dunes Arts Foundation is perversely pleased to present ‘A Season of Spirits: Christmas Ghost Tales Old & New’, a captivating celebration of the long-standing Victorian tradition of sharing ghost stories at Christmas. Blending beloved classics with modern ghost stories, audiences are invited to gather close and listen to eerie tales in which the line between the season and the supernatural blurs.
Stories include Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol,' which warmly connects the holiday to the supernatural through themes of ghostly visits and moral redemption. H.G. Wells' 'A Beautiful Suit' explores the superficial emphasis on beauty over life’s deeper realities. M.R. James' ‘An Evening’s Entertainment' is a ghost story rooted in dark pagan traditions, traditional storytelling with profound and chilling horror elements. Dinah Mulock Craik's 'The Last House on C Street' features a mysterious, atmospheric house that gradually uncovers a woman’s hidden secret, adding layers of intrigue and suspense. Jeanette Winterson's ‘Dark Christmas’ explores the emotional ghosts that haunt and shape our present experiences, offering a sense of gentle reflection and connection.
Stories will be read by Dunes Artistic Director Steve Scott, and Region actors including Danielle Bilderback, Michael Lasswell, Bill Lindblom and Morgan McCabe.
This is a "pay what you can" performance with a suggested donation of $5. Tickets available at the door or at our website www.dunesARTS.org
