In July of 2025, members of First Presbyterian Church of Maysville, Kentucky, will embark on a transformative pilgrimage to Scotland, tracing the footsteps of John Knox, the fierce reformer who shaped Scottish Presbyterianism and our spiritual heritage here in Kentucky. The most moving will likely be our visit to Knox's house in Edinburgh's Royal Mile. In those small, dark rooms, we can imagine Knox writing his influential works and conducting meetings that would shape the future of Protestantism. We will be touched by seeing his study, where he labored over his translation of the Bible into English and crafted sermons that would inspire generations.
As we return to Maysville, we will bring back not just photographs and souvenirs but a renewed appreciation for our Presbyterian heritage and the bold faith of John Knox. His famous words, "Give me Scotland, or I die," reflect a passion for spreading God's Word that still inspires us today. May we show similar courage and dedication in living out our faith in our own time and place.
You need not be a member of First Presbyterian to make the journey.
