Sara Dant is Brady Presidential Distinguished Professor and Chair of History at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Her work focuses on environmental politics in the United States with a particular emphasis on the creation and development of consensus and bipartisanism. Dr. Dant’s latest book is a new, completely revised and updated edition of Losing Eden: An Environmental History of the American West (University of Nebraska Press, 2023)
Join us as Sara Dant discusses the histories of the Weber River, Provo River, Bear River, Blacks Fork, Green River, and numerous other rivers throughout Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, to demonstrate that between the 1850s and 1900 especially, log and ties drives were fundamental to the settlement success of the region. This is the story of the Intermountain West’s other extractive economy. And a river runs through it.
