The next A Response and a Call, Story Power: Reclaiming the Narrative, will be held during Banned Books Week on Thursday, September 26 at 12:00 p.m. It will feature a lively conversation with a panel of community members and artists of color, spanning generations and exploring the critical ways that books help us recognize and affirm culture and identity and how libraries create communities of growth, empathy, and compassion. The event will celebrate the language of movement with an excerpt from Books and Other Endangered Species, JDPP’s latest work-in-progress, as well as images and voices from Hartford seniors and youth helping us to celebrate books and the power of our stories.
The event will take place at the Center for Contemporary Culture at Hartford Public Library, 500 Main St., Hartford, hosted by A Response and a Call curator, Mellissa Craig, joined by writer, educator, and poet Kate Rushin; librarian, facilitator, and cultural organizer, Gabbie Barnes; and Angiebel Torres representing the talented and hopeful youth of today.
This event is free, but registration is required. If you cannot attend in person, the event will also be live streamed.
