Take a book, leave a book, The Rainbow Little Library is a free little library is filled with age appropriate LGBTIQA+ children’s books. The Rainbow Little Library is a free book-sharing library shelf where anyone may take a rainbow children's book or leave one to share. Little libraries share knowledge, joy, acceptance and education freely. You do not need to donate a book in order to take one. We encourage you to contribute any books you think belong because there is also joy in sharing knowledge as well as finding it.
Publisher Harper Collins says "There are many benefits of LGBTQ+ books for kids of all ages and backgrounds. For LGBTQ+ kids, seeing that people like them exist in the fictional world can help children feel more accepted in the real world... For non LGBTQ+ kids, it provides a window into these experiences, often teaching empathy and understanding. It helps to read about topics you're not familiar with to understand better where another person or perspective comes from in any situation." They have a great article about the importance of LGBTIQA+ books for children, including dispelling myths about LGBTIQA+ books for kids which you can read here: https://www.harpercollins.com/blogs/harperkids/lgbtq-books
Come along and pick up a rainbow book or two, or donate one to the library as part of the Children’s Week launch and festivities.
