If you are a death doula or palliative care giver, this is a must attend event. We will screen a documentary that follows three terminally ill patients who live in states where medical aid in dying is not permitted, but they each want to live their final days with conscious awareness and freedom from suffering. Joining us for the movie is Edmund Tiryakian of Dying Right NC. Ed is an industry leader on citizen advocacy that seeks enactment of medical aid in dying (MAID) legislation in N.C. Ed welcomes your questions, as we explore end of life choices with understanding and compassion.
While MAID is a topic many choose to avoid discussing due to its complex legal and ethical concerns, it is important that death doulas and other care givers understand the developments in NC and other states to better serve their community's needs at the end of life. Please share the event and take a look at HB410, a bipartisan bill mandating the NC Institute of Health to conduct an exhaustive study of Medical Aid in Dying, which is now before the House. While this bill does not call for passage of MAID in NC, it would allow legislators to learn more about this increasingly popular end of life option.
