zAmya Theater Project is thrilled to present a new regional adaptation of A Prairie Homeless Companion, by Josef Evans. This live radio show shines the light on homelessness in rural Minnesota, and will be touring Saint Paul and six cities – including Grand Rapids! – in Northeast Minnesota this Fall.A Prairie Homeless Companion is modeled after the well-known radio show A Prairie Home Companion. With music, bad jokes, and real stories, in zAmya’s version, a theater company from the city presents a show with a quaint depiction of small-town life in Minnesota. But the actors find a very different reality than the community they’ve been spoofing. Residents of the town take over the show and tell more realistic stories.
The Grand Rapids performance takes place Monday, October 7th, at 6:30pm, at the Minnesota North College’s Itasca Campus, 1851 East Highway 169, Grand Rapids, MN 55744. The box office opens at 6:00pm. The show lasts approximately two hours, including intermission.
Please park in the main campus lot. The show will be in the McMahon Student Center, in the center of the campus. Watch for signage starting in the parking lot to lead you.
The October 7th performance is completely free, and pre-registration is not required. For accessibility concerns, please contact Company Manager Esther Ouray, at esther [at] zamyatheater [dot] org or 612-760-4804.
As a thank you, zAmya offers $20 Walmart gift cards for audience members bringing the lived experience of homelessness (while supplies last).
Suggested age: Alongside much humor and content for all ages, some stories contain mature themes including domestic abuse and drug use. Therefore parental discretion is advised.
A big thanks to our Grand Rapids partners: Minnesota North College, and Grace House!
