Historio-Mythography: Weaving the Mythic with the Modern
A poetry masterclass with Bob Beagrie (PhD) exploring ideas, models and practical approaches to composing poems that juxtapose the historical, mythological, and the modern. Through a series of step-by-step writing activities, inspirational prompts and discussion of example poems we will experiment with ways of representing our contemporary concerns through historical and mythical scenarios. The workshop involves automatic writing, revision and shaping, and draws upon the ancient conventions of epic verse as well as the work of modern practitioners.
Bob Beagrie (PhD) has published numerous collections of poetry and several pamphlets, most recently: 'Romanceros' (Drunk Muse Press 2024), Eftwyrd (Smokestack 2023), The Last Almanac (Yaffle Press, 2023), When We Wake We Think We’re Whalers from Eden (Stairwell Books 2021). His work has appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines and has been translated into Finnish, Urdu, Swedish, Dutch, Spanish, Estonian, Karelian and Gaelic.
