Mohiniyattam – Lecture-Demonstration ‘A Perspective – Drishtikon’ is a series of lecture-demonstrations to promote the classical dance of India. It is held by the Museum Society of Mumbai with generous support from the NCPA and K.V. Mariwala Philanthropy Initiative on the 60th anniversary of the society. This month, Mohiniyattam exponent Divya Warier will give an insightful lecture-demonstration on the occasion. Divya Warier is a distinguished Mohiniyattam soloist and senior disciple of Dr. Neena Prasad at Soungandhikam Kalari. Trained in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam under Smt. Jayashree Nair, she further honed her craft under Sharmila Biswas and Venu G. A graded artiste of Mumbai Doordarshan, she holds an MFA from SASTRA University and an MBA from Mumbai University. She teaches at Avyukt Arts, an initiative of the Warrier Foundation, where she also serves as a Trustee. The Foundation provides free education, shelter, food, and healthcare to underprivileged children. Honored with titles like the A.T. Govindarajan Pillai Award and Nrityavilasini, she continues her artistic journey, currently pursuing a Diploma in Mohiniyattam. The Museum Society of Mumbai was founded in 1963 with the aim of promoting public interest in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and further bolstering an appreciation for art and culture in the people of Mumbai. Through the years, the society, which has a dedicated group of volunteers, has become a highly respected and dynamic organisation. Its activities include lectures by renowned national and international scholars, guided visits to significant historical and cultural sites, and seminars and workshops on topics related to culture and history. The society’s aim is to inculcate a sense of history and culture in young people, offering specially tailored programmes for school and college students, as well as for people with disabilities or from underprivileged backgrounds, children with cancer and senior citizens. An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with the Museum Society of Mumbai and supported by K.V. Mariwala Philanthropy Initiative Entry free and on a first-come-first-served basis.
