Palestinian self-representation through film has long been a critical means of resistance, from the establishment of the Palestinian Film Unit in the 1960s to the present day. Palestinians have established a flourishing national cinema under conditions of occupation, apartheid, exile and genocide. Through bi-weekly screenings, we will explore themes of Palestinian exile, journey and return on the screen, considering how Palestinian documentarists and experimental filmmakers have navigated states of exile, forced and imagined journeys and the right to return.
