About this Event
Support youth education & honor the late great Bill Russell
This is the Bill Russell season…
#6 will be retired league wide and here in Boston we will be celebrating Bill Russell in his entirety. The gentle giant & humble civil rights leader has many untold stories of courage and leadership that happened behind the redline… While we will celebrate his magnificent basketball career, this project focuses on his civil rights legacy, struggle for fair housing & his legendary leadership of men…
Afrimerican Academy is proud to announce Mr. Celtics has answered the #BostonRedline85 call to honor the Bill Russell season by supporting our Bill Russell: Leader of Men Project for Black History Month 2023. Our students will be documenting his civil rights legacy for our library & youtube channel.
The #BostonRedline85 campaign is designed to create awareness around the systemic racism built into the infrastructure in Boston and the effects we still feel today including a 33 year life expectancy difference between Roxbury & Back Bay.
Join us as we mark 85 years since this map was issued February 1st, 1938 during Black History Month 2023. We are looking for volunteers and supporters. Mr. Celtics will be leading Celtics nation with a series of events this season starting with ‘A Night with Mr. Celtics’ Raffle’.#6forever
