MaxX & Love are a Blues duo primarily inspired by African and Delta Blues.
Forming in 2021, they've grown and have begun to infuse a lot of their own current influences to the Blues with a stylistic depth and emotional resonance.
Encompassing a wide array of soundscapes, storytelling and musical styles, their take on the Blues is one of an interpersonal musical journey.
With Love leaning towards Jazz, Soul and Experimental music while MaxX hailing from a maelstrom of guitar-dense Rock ’n Roll, they found a dirt crossroad at which their styles and genres can dance with a sense of musical space that allows them to shine individually, while working holistically within the context of the duo.
Within their first three years, they’ve shared stages with acts like Dan Patlansky, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and The Black Cat Bones, been listed in Forbes Africa’s: Top 10 Rising Stars in Africa and have most recently released their debut album, These Blues Might Get You Too.
“The Blues is a feeling” - A sentiment that the pair shares with their music, which largely captures the maturity of their artistic passion. With a nostalgic voice, a wailing guitar and a lot of respect, MaxX & Love pay homage to the origins of contemporary western music - The Blues.
Jasper Dan has certainly come a long way since opening for Iron Maiden in Johannesburg as part of their Book of Souls World Tour in 2016. A number of member changes since have hugely enhanced their musical delivery and performances which is bolstered by their achievements of late.
Their single “Your Sugar Girl” placed at Number 1 on the Mix FM SA Top 40 for 5 weeks from December 2020 and in 2021, their song “Over The Water’s Edge” from their album “A Southern Fling” was selected to feature in the American motion picture American Bigfoot.
More recently, in 2022, both their original single, The Soil (City Of Gold) & a live recording of their rendition of Levon Helms, Hurricane have both reached Number 1 on the Mix FM SA Top 40.
