This concert is going to be one for the books. This new band is high energy all the way. If you like jazz, this concert is for you. If you like rock, this concert is for you. And especially, if you like trumpets, this concert is for you! With inspiration from the likes of Maynard Ferguson and Bill Chase, this jazz-rock band has a line-up that can't be beat, featuring some of the best players from the San Diego area. The instrumentation of drums, bass, guitar, keys, and four (yes, four!) trumpets is bound to blow you away with exciting arrangements of existing jazz standards, as well as some brand-new hard-hitting tunes.
About Billy Edwall:
A native of San Diego, Billy Edwall grew up playing the trumpet. Having been inspired by the incredible upper-register playing of so many wonderful commercial trumpet players, including Bill Chase and Maynard Ferguson, Billy currently plays lead trumpet around San Diego in settings such as Sea World, musical theatre, party bands such as Liquid Blue, a number of big bands in town, and the San Diego Zoo. Billy took an exciting new interest in learning jazz in 2019, and returned to San Diego State University for a master's degree in jazz studies. This concert, on 12/7, is a culmination of all the work he has put in over the past two years to more deeply learn music, as well as the start of his own band.
