About this Event
Come explore Edgewood Park & Natural Preserve with Friends of Edgewood docents after dark. This special night hike will start from the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve. What nocturnal creatures might we see? Spiders? Bats? Scorpions? Mice? Owls? Come learn about how these species play an important role in the biodiversity of Edgewood.
We will hike up the Sylvan Trail. We will cover about 3 miles, at a moderate pace. The hike will last about 3.5 hours. Elevation gain is approximately 400 feet. This hike is geared toward adults and children 8 years of age or older (who are not afraid of the dark). All hikers should be prepared to stay with the group for the duration of the hike. Participants must stay with the docents at all times.
Wear sturdy shoes and dress in layers, it gets cooler after the sun goes down. Bring water and a snack to eat along the trail. We will provide flashlights with red filters. Restrooms and water are available only at the picnic area near the Sylvan Trailhead. Please plan ahead.
All participants, including children, must be registered individually and have approved the liability waiver through Eventbrite. Details on where to meet will be emailed to participants before the event.
We will still hike in light showers, but heavy rain cancels this hike.
Group size is very limited. Please cancel your reservation if you are unable to attend so others may have a chance to join us.
We ask folks to register for our hikes in order to keep group sizes manageable, but often we have a few no shows. If you’d like to take a chance, you are welcome to drop-in 10 minutes before the beginning of the hike to see if there is extra room. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm whether there will be space for drop-in hikers in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
