Join the Coggeshall staff as we prepare a Thanksgiving meal in our historic farmhouse over the hearth. The late 18th century was before the official start of Thanksgiving as a national holiday, but the day was still celebrated with food and prayer in New England. Watch our costumed historians make chicken on a string, bake a pie in the hot coals, mash turnips, and churn butter. In the woodshop, we will also demonstrate how to carve wooden spoons. Explore the garden to see the last of the fall harvest and learn how crops were stored for the winter. Bring your family for a fun day at the farm and get in the Thanksgiving spirit. Please note: This is not a Thanksgiving meal for visitors to eat. Food prepared in the historic Farmhouse Kitchen does not meet modern health and food preparation codes for public consumption.
