The Empire State Theatre & Musical Instrument Museum is pleased to welcome back to our Unit Orchestra console four friends of ESTMIM. This special fundraising program will help us to raise money for some upcoming major repairs to the Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ in preparation of its centennial celebration in 2025.
Bob Carbone is a Syracuse NY native and a co-founder of the Piano & Organ Center in Syracuse, New York. The store has a reputation for their quality products as well as creative lesson programs, which are offered to all of their customers. Bob is a student of Syracuse's famous Carlton James who was house organist on our Wurlitzer at Syracuse's RKO Keith's Theatre. Given Bob’s passion for playing organ (he started when he was just 13) and his love for teaching, its no surprise he is well known in our community.
John Paul Fiscoe is certainly no stranger to the Syracuse Wurlitzer. John has performed countless concerts both as a regular season artist as well as many years during the New York State Fair. He is well versed in the traditional organ performance, silent film accompaniment as well as popular sing-a-longs. In retirement he's often found in Rome NY at the Capitol Theatre's Grand Moller organ where he has served as house organist for several years.
Geraldine Addona Speck is a former student of the late famous Syracuse theatre organist Karl Cole. She completed her studies with Bob Carbone and has joined ESTMIM as recording secretary five years ago. Serving as a registered nurse for her husbands eye/vision surgery practice, Geraldine has turned her passion for organ performance into a full-time hobby. She has performed many concerts during the New York State Fair and looks forward to performing again this year.
Kevin Scott comes to Syracuse from Rochester where he is active with the Rochester Theater Organ Society. Kevin is one of the few people responsible for the restoration and preservation work on their world-renowned instruments. Scott has performed several concerts on our Syracuse Wurlitzer including several years during the annual State Fair.
About ESTMIM:
The Empire State Theatre & Musical Instrument Museum is located in the Harriet May Mills Art & Home Center on the New York State Fairgrounds. It was established in 1966 as a Nonprofit and Educational Organization, Chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.
The Wurlitzer organ was built in 1925 for the former RKO Keith’s Theatre in downtown Syracuse where it was used principally for silent film accompaniment and musical interludes. It was saved and reinstalled permanently in the Empire Theatre at the State Fairgrounds as the centerpiece of the theatre and musical instrument museum.
