About this Event
A Moment in Time — Postcards to the Sky
Grief changes us. But so does love.
Join us for A Moment in Time, a two-part grief workshop blending silent mindfulness, creativity, and remembrance. Together, we’ll create space to connect with our departed loved ones, not through words, but through presence.
This event begins with a silent, guided Grief Walk in the form of a photo walk, where participants will be invited to photograph a moment, object, or scene that brings them into connection with a memory of someone they’ve lost.
Following the walk, we’ll gather in a cozy, creative circle for the Postcard Writing Workshop. Using polaroids taken during the walk, you’ll craft a postcard to your loved one—anchored in where you are today, and how their love still lives within you. All materials will be provided.
You are also welcome to bring a personal object that helps you feel reconnected with someone you’ve lost.
What to bring
- A camera or smartphone for taking photos
- (Optional) An item that reconnects you to a departed loved one
- Comfortable shoes
- An open heart

She is currently working on a photomemoir titled Nonón (Spark of my Life), in honor of her late life-partner of twelve years, Juan Alexander Caraballo, also known as DJ Jonnie Sparko. An iteration of this work is currently on view as a solo exhibition titled Love Never Dies at IPC ArtSpace in Miami, Florida.
About the exhibition
Love Never Dies is a photography exhibition centered on the final chapter in the life of DJ Jonnie Sparko (Juan Caraballo), as documented by his partner and photographer Paola Katherine Rodriguez. Curated by Rebecca Friedman, PhD, and Alon Skuy, the exhibition traces the couple’s shared journey—through illness, tenderness and artistic collaboration—culminating in a poignant record of Jonnie’s last days.
At the heart of the exhibition is the camera, serving as both witness and medium. The photographs offer insight into Jonnie and Paola’s connection, shaped in part by Paola’s Broken Free Project, which used portraiture to support healing for survivors of trauma. In Jonnie, she found her final subject—someone who brought vulnerability and resilience into focus in equal measure.
Love Never Dies invites viewers to reflect on themes of dignity, grief and enduring emotional bonds, encouraging a collective space for contemplation and empathy.
This exhibition is supported by the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation through the CreARTE grant, in partnership with the Miami Foundation, the Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab at FIU, iWitness and IPC ArtSpace.
