If you wear vintage or historically-inspired hats, you know how crucial a good feather is. Lynn McMasters will shed light on vintage millinery ornaments and, using five projects as exemplars, guide you in developing the feather artistry skills you need to create your own dramatic, gorgeous devices. Once armed with this knowledge, you will have the ability to so fabulously adorn your unique chapeaus. The fee for the class is $30, plus a $15 kit fee (payable to instructor)
MATERIALS PROVIDED:
Kit includes feathers and other supplies for
Projects #3-#5, plus wire and tape for Projects #1 and #2.
SUPPLIES TO BRING:
A small bottle of Beacon's Fabri-Tac Glue or Beacon's 3-in-1 (they're the same). For Project #1: 8-10 rooster tail feathers (right or left, it doesn't matter, so long as they all curve to the same side). Project #2: 7x ~10" pheasant tail feathers - all rights or lefts. These feathers have a different pattern on each side. All your feathers should look the same when look at them from the front. They will be straight - we'll curl them in class. Also, bring a standard sewing kit with craft scissors.
INSTRUCTOR:
Lynn McMasters learned to sew in her youth and began her adventures in millinery in her late 20s. She blames historical reenactment for the passion for making hats. The creator of www.outofaportrait.com, Lynn sells her exclusive line of over 60 patterns from eight costume eras.
