“Lord, what fools these mortals be!”
A Midsummer Night's Dream is Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, desire, and transformation; the way we are transformed by love, the ways love transforms us, and the lengths we would go for it. MUST is proud to bring to life this whimsical and absurd comedy, where logic, reason, and social norms fall to the wayside.
The woods near Athens are crowded. Four runaway lovers. Two feuding fairy monarchs. Worst of all: an amateur theatre troupe. It’s a recipe for disaster. When Hermia and Lysander decide to run away together to get married, they are followed by Demetrius (in love with Hermia) and Helena (in love with Demetrius). Unknowingly, this love quadrangle runs right into the forest of the fairy king and queen, Oberon and Titania, who are currently at odds with each other. Chief mischief-maker Puck delights in stirring up mayhem, especially with Nick Bottom and his amateur theatre troupe, the Mechanicals, in the woods to rehearse their play. When these three worlds collide, it makes for a night you’ll never forget. A Midsummer Night's Dream explores the multifaceted nature of love: the ecstasy and passion of young love, the piercing agony of unrequited love and the complexity and deep layers of a love long enduring.
