About this Event
A Mayoral Forum for Minneapolis’ Future
Hosted by The African American Leadership Forum
Minneapolis stands at a turning point. As the city approaches its next mayoral election, residents have a chance not only to hear from those who seek to lead—but to shape the very conversation about where we’re going and how we’ll get there.
A Mayoral Forum for Minneapolis’ Future is a gathering for those who believe that civic life must be rooted in care, community, and clarity. Organized by The African American Leadership Forum, this forum brings together neighbors, creatives, organizers, youth, elders, and candidates in a space designed to support meaningful exchange—not just about policies, but about the future we want to live in. This forum is shaped by the values that continue to move Minneapolis forward: imagination, accountability, collective wisdom, and the brilliance of Black leadership. It is not a debate. It is a space of direction-setting. Here, we ask candidates to meet the community not with performance, but with purpose.
What You'll Experience
- Community-Centered Dialogue: This will be a moderated discussion led by trusted Black leaders and culture bearers. Conversations will focus on the ideas, histories, and futures that matter most to our neighborhoods.
- Creative Atmosphere: Designed by local Black artists, the space will reflect our culture, resilience, and joy—through visual art, music, and movement.
- Vision-Driven Questions: Curated by and for the community, questions will go beyond typical campaign talking points and speak to real-life needs and aspirations.
- Accessible and Welcoming Environment : The forum will include community agreements, language access where needed, visible timekeeping, and accommodations for physical/mental health to ensure that all participants feel respected and able to participate fully.
- Direct Candidate Engagement: Following the forum, attendees will have the chance to connect one-on-one with candidates during a dedicated tabling hour. This is an opportunity to ask questions, share perspectives, and engage in meaningful dialogue beyond the moderated discussion.
- Opportunities for Continued Engagement: This event isn’t a one-time gathering—it’s part of a larger commitment to leadership development and sustained community power. Attendees will leave with concrete ways to stay involved before and after the election.
