About this Event

In a time when educators and communities face challenges like scarcity, conflict, division, and mistrust, cultivating strong, authentic relationships has never been more critical. This workshop, facilitated by NYS CSTAC-NYC Director Kevin John Coyne, Ed.D alongside Ghylian Bell, founder of the Urban Yoga Foundation, and Sara Steinweiss, founder of Conflict Resolution Systems, will help community school leaders and educators cultivate those relationships and create a healthy and supportive environment for students, families, staff, and community members.

This workshop offers an impactful model of collaboration rooted in the history of the community school movement and anchored by the expectations and benchmarks of the New York State Education Department, the strategic goals of the NYC Office of Community Schools, and the principles of Community Schools Forward. It provides educators with actionable strategies for building trust and fostering meaningful relationships, even amidst uncertainty.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore trust-building tools rooted in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and mindfulness. These tools will help them strengthen their connections with students, families, and colleagues. Participants will learn how to promote trust and inclusivity in their classrooms and communities, addressing the current educational climate with empathy and understanding.

By observing the effective collaboration between Bell, Coyne, and Steinweiss, educators will directly experience the importance of trust, resilience, and inclusivity in fostering thriving school communities. This workshop will empower participants to meet NYS benchmarks, rebuild trust, and propel their communities forward with a renewed sense of purpose and confidence.
