Julia Sholomova’s work draws on themes of mysticism, mythology, wonders found in everyday life, the forest, the inner child, memory, belonging, and women’s emotional worlds. The mystery and storytelling behind each of Julia’s pieces immediately transport the viewers into a different world; invites them to explore their own emotional spaces and spiritual secrets; and experience an elevated state of tranquility and self-awareness.
Yulia Sholomova is a Russian-born multidisciplinary artist now living in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her practice spans layered acrylic painting, textile art, fine art objects, and assemblages. Working in surreal symbolism, she crafts visual metaphors that weave memory, migration, belonging, identity, and the "inner child" with folklore, nature, and found objects. Sholomova graduated with honors from Saint Petersburg State University of Technology and Design in 2005. Her creative approach—an "archaeology of the everyday"—transforms vintage fabrics, toys, and porcelain into tactile, poetic worlds reflecting vulnerability and resilience. Influenced by childhood memories, northern forests, and a pursuit of tenderness in daily life, her artwork has been exhibited across the U.S. and Russia, including Hallberg Center for the Arts (MN), Union Street Gallery (IL), Solidarity Street Gallery (MN), Center for the Visual Arts (WI), The Art Garage (WI), White Bear Center for the Arts (MN), and ARTMUZA Museum of Contemporary Art (St. Petersburg).
