The A Little Night(hawk) Music kicks off the 2024-2025 season with a performance by Dr. Sanghie Lee entitled “It’s a love story.” The program will explore the love story between Schumann and his wife Clara, who was the daughter of his piano teacher, Friedrich Wieck. Their love was met with severe opposition by her father, and Clara and Robert could not see each other and rarely communicated. During their separation, Robert threw himself into composing and she became the greatest inspiration for his work. The program will feature Schumann’s Fantasy in C Major and Piano Concerto in A minor, which famously contains Clara’s name hidden within the musical notes themselves. Performances will be on Monday, October 7 (Performing Arts Center, UNG Gainesville Campus) and Tuesday, October 8 (Shott Performance Hall, UNG Dahlonega Campus). Both performances are at 7:30pm and are free to the public.
