This November 26th, we will visiting the dungeon and deep dive into the 1996 album, 'ATLiens' by Outkast. A groundbreaking album that blended the sounds of southern hip-hop & experimental production, creating a landscape that was both otherworldly and deeply rooted in the duo's Atlanta origins. The album combines Jazz, Atmospheric beats, Heavy Bass Lines and Futuristic Synths, resulting in a unique sound to the genre. Andre 3000 and Big Boi's distinct flows and complex lyricism delve into themes of alienation, personal growth, and the struggles of navigating fame, making the album a conceptual journey as well. An example is track 6 , "Elevators (Me & You)", a true showcase in their ability to weave introspective storytelling with innovative soundscapes, positioning them as true pioneers in the hip-hop scene during that time and beyond. While 'ATLiens' was pivotal in many of our lives, it was also important in expanding the boundaries of what Southern hip-hop could be, influencing the genre's evolution and cementing OutKast as one of hip-hop’s most innovative acts. Its cosmic aesthetic and experimental approach paved the way for future artists to explore more diverse and abstract sounds within the genre, helping to diversify the overall landscape of hip-hop.
Alongside the listening session we are brining in a very special guest
