What can we learn from cookbooks? Are they just for cooking? Join Librarian Toffa Abdul Wahed as she explores all things cookbooks with guest speakers Christopher Tan and Tanya Pillay-Nair. Christopher and Tanya will share about the cookbooks they cooked from in their episodes of “From Book to Cook”, a video series by the National Library. Toffa will also showcase cookbooks and other resources available at the National Library relevant to food research.

About the Speaker
Toffa Abdul Wahed is a Librarian with the National Library, Singapore, where she works with the Singapore and Southeast Asia collections.
About the Guest Speaker
Christopher Tan is an award-winning food writer and culinary instructor. His works include The Way of Kueh (2019), a comprehensive work about Singapore’s kueh culture, NerdBaker2: Tales from the Yeast Indies (2024), Chinese Heritage Cooking (2012), Ask The Foodie (2013), and Nerdbaker: Extraordinary Recipes, Stories & Baking Adventures from a True Oven Geek (2015). He has conducted talks and demonstrations at Singapore’s National History Museum and Peranakan Museum, the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, the Paris’ Le Musee Quai Branly, and at events such as the Singapore Writers’ Festival, and Sydney International Food Festival.
About the Guest Speaker
Tanya Pillay-Nair is a member of the Peranakan Indian (Chitty Melaka) Association Singapore and was the coordinator of Heritage Food of the Peranakan Indians: In a Chitty Melaka Kitchen (2023), a cookbook of heritage recipes from the Chetti Melaka community. She has been featured in articles by the Peranakan Museum, National Geographic, and SAVEUR.
