About this Event
Last October, Congressman Earl Blumenauer announced he would not seek re-election to Oregon's 3rd Congressional District, which he has represented for 28 years. During his tenure, he championed causes like transportation (particularly promoting bicycles and light rail), cannabis reform, infrastructure development, and healthcare initiatives, including the Affordable Care Act and universal healthcare.
Before serving in Congress, Blumenauer was an influential figure in Oregon politics, starting as a State Legislator at age 23, later serving as a Multnomah County Commissioner, and finally, as a Portland City Council member.
When asked about his future plans, Blumenauer said he looks forward to focusing on energy, transportation, and bicycles. He stated, "I’m leaving Congress because I want to be more present in my community."
Join us for a special conversation with Congressman Blumenauer as he reflects on his 50-year career and explores what lies ahead for him in his continued commitment to public service as a private citizen.
