Welcome to Canta's 2024 Christmas concert, featuring a Baroque music program from the Viceroyalty of New Spain—the vast region that, from 1535 to 1821, encompassed present-day Mexico, Central America up to Costa Rica’s southern border, and parts of the United States.The concert will showcase vocal works in Spanish by prominent composers active in the region from the late 16th to the early 18th century, including Gaspar Fernandes (1566–1629), Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla (1590–1664), Juan García de Zéspedes (1619–1678), Antonio de Salazar (ca. 1650–1715), and others.
