Timbalive is one of the largest and most successful timba groups in the United States - and the world, renown for sophisticated productions and a spectacular live show. The band burst onto South Florida's music scene in August 2008, by Leo Garcia (timbales & director), offering the best Cuban music with an extra touch of international rhythm. The entire 10-piece band members are all highly trained musicians from Cuba’s most prestigious music schools in Cuba, and represent some of the island’s best loved groups. Timbalive have collaborated with many giants from the Latin music scene in the US, including Amaury Gutierrez, Willy Chirino, Albita Rodriguez, Issac Delgado, Manolin (El Médico de la Salsa), Grupo Afrocuba, Carlos Manuel, Luis Enrique, Rey Ruiz, Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz, Pablo FG, Clave y Guaguanco, Oscar de Leon, Descemer Bueno, Mayito Rivera, Los 4, Pedrito Calvo, Roberton "Van Van" and Maykel Fonts. They have toured Europe and Latin America, bringing timba to a global audience. Can their hit songs, including “El Dinero,” Ave Maria, Que Calor,”, and “Como Miami No Hay Na,” propel them to win this salsa battle?
N'Taya
The success of sparkling high-voltage band N'Taya’s last two critically acclaimed albums is a testament that Cuban music is alive and thriving in Miami. N’Taya, led by singer Nick “N’Taya” Martinez, channels the spirit of classic timba and changüi to a new generation of salsa lovers.
Changüí is the predecessor of son montuno, the musical ancestor of modern salsa, born in Cuba’s eastern Guantanamo province in the early 19th century. It is the music of the enslaved sugar cane workers, a meeting of African rhythms and percussion with Spanish cancion and guitar. Timba is one of its variants, building on the Afro-Cuban folkloric base and adding salsa and funk and a powerful rhythm section. N’Taya is a sparkling high-voltage band whose sound keeps classic rhythms alive, with a sound that is also perfectly suited for the dance club!
