A Juneteenth Pageant-THE PLAY is like no pageant that you’ve ever seen before. Written and directed by Hampton playwright, Marie St. Clair, this moving, often humorous and memorable experience will illuminate the origins and meaning of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. You will laugh, you may cry, but you will leave enlightened to the true meaning of Juneteenth, also known as "Freedom Day!"
Every person has their own agenda why they have entered this pageant. A host trying to get his cancelled talk show back on the air, a Pageant coordinator who is using the pageant to get a promotion. A contestant who needs the prize money to help her social causes, and a washed-up R&B singer who is using the pageant to win his ex-wife back. Find out how these back stories are combined with music, Juneteenth history, and laughter to be the most exciting pageant (and play) you have seen! The play is written and directed by Marie St.Clair and stars: Luther Chambers, Deedra Chambers, Gabe Diaz, Faith Gilliam, Jada Holliday, Candyce St.Clair, Ja'Rae Grace, and the music of Akeylah Simone!
Admission is free for Hampton History Museum members, $5 for non-members. Proceeds support the Hampton History Museum
