A Journey of Trial and Triumph, including Franz Liszt's Variations on "Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen" (Weeping, Wailing, Grieving, Quailing) for organ, a set of intricate variations on the German Lenten chorale tune, full of evocative musical motives and harmonies depicting the title and text of the chorale; Franz Liszt's Via crucis (The 14 Stations of the Cross) for chorus and organ, a musical narration of Jesus' poignant journey to the cross; Zoltán Kodály's Pange lingua for chorus and organ, a multimovement setting of the Eucharistic hymn, full of lyricism and attractive harmonies. The program concludes with Bob Chilcott's Gloria for chorus, organ, brass quintet and timpani, an exuberant setting of the famous Latin text.
