Walking and the outdoors is at the heart of Kerri’s writing, where she explores the deep connection between women, walking and storytelling.
A creative non-fiction writer, academic, editor and keen walker based in the Scottish Borders her first book, Wanderers: A History of Women Walking (2021, Reaktion Books), is a best-seller and has been translated into multiple languages. Her latest non-fiction book, Pathfinding: On Walking, Motherhood, and Freedom (2025, Elliott & Thompson), was a blend of the history of mothering, memoir and nature writing.
She is the editor of the first ever anthology of women’s writing about walking, Way Makers (2023, Reaktion), and her edition of the correspondence of the Scottish nature-writer Nan Shepherd was longlisted for the Saltire Book Awards Research Book of the Year 2024.
