A Historical Tour of Corktown with Local Historian Tim McKayTim will take us to those places you know and some you don't. He will give you the history of the neighborhood dating back to the mid-1800s. We will go primarily by bus but there will be an opportunity to walk a little too. At the end, we will be at the Gaelic League for food and there will be a cash bar.
Tim will be talking about the original residents, their connection to the City, employment then and now, sites to see then and now, the architecture then and now and so much more. We will see both the Michigan Central Station and Holy Trinity Church. We won't have time to go into the Station but will provide information on when it is available to see at another time.
There are two ways to board the tour:
By noon on Sunday, board the bus at Schoolcraft College in Livonia in the parking lot. The bus will take you into Detroit and return you around 5 pm to Schoolcraft for your car.
OR
By 12:45 pm on Sunday, drive to the Gaelic League in Detroit and park in the back parking lot. It is located at 2068 Michigan Ave. You will board the bus around 1 pm for the tour. We will return to the Gaelic League around 3 pm for food and a cash bar. You may leave anytime after that.
